Current Dispersal of Bsal in Europe

Currently in Europe, B. salamandrivorans has been detected in the wild in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.  In September 2017, this fungus was detected in Essen, Germany, over 100km from the first location in Germany where it was detected, In addition, there has been detection of Bsal infections in captive urodelans in the UK, Germany,The Netherlands and Spain. As it continues to spread, this fungus poses an imminent threat to amphibians in other European countries as well. As a result, an early warning system has been conceptualized to enable a rapid response to further dissemination of this pathogen throughout Europe.
